Silene grisea Boiss.

Life-form & habit: Perennial, 15–50 cm, clothed with greyish pubescence. Woody stock producing sterile shoots and few flowering stems.

Leaves: Sterile shoots with crowded, oblong-spatulate leaves; basal cauline leaves also oblong-spatulate; upper cauline leaves very short, linear.

Inflorescence & flowers: Inflorescence a short raceme, with very short branches, 1–3-flowered. Calyx glandular, with triangular, somewhat acute teeth, bent at fruiting. Petal limb pale yellow-green, bipartite; corona lobes oblong.

Fruit: Capsule oblong, slightly longer than the calyx, 3–4 times longer than carpophore.

Phenology: Flowers June–July.

Habitat & elevation: Rocky sites and woodland habitats.

Lebanese distribution: Tannourine, Dimane, Mar Şema‘an ‘Amoudi, Bcharré, Hadeth, Ehden, Cedars of Bsharré, above Ehden, source of the Qadicha, Laqlouq, between Ehmej and Laqlouq, Jabal Qamoua, Jabal Sannine.

Native range: Lebanon–Syria and Palestine (POWO).
