About Me:

Welcome to floraFauna.life. My name is Ramy Maalouf, and I am the creator behind this project: a growing visual and scientific archive devoted to the natural world. I am a field naturalist, conservationist, photographer, and independent researcher, with a parallel life in music as a professional flutist, composer, and inventor.

floraFauna.life is both a record and a journey. It brings together more than 15,000 photographs and documentation of over 2,000 species, collected during years of fieldwork across varied landscapes. From the flora of Lebanon, Spain, and Brazil to discoveries in Romania, Algeria, the Greek Ionian Islands, and the desert environment of Al Ula in Saudi Arabia, this archive reflects the diversity of the ecosystems I explore and the conservation challenges they face.

My approach blends scientific rigor with artistic interpretation. While I am not a formally trained botanist, I work through systematic observation, careful documentation, and close collaboration with professional scientists. My field data and photographs have contributed to peer-reviewed research published in various journals, including studies on rare orchid populations and the extraordinary fossil insects preserved in Lebanese amber. Through my work, I aim not only to record biodiversity, but to narrate the stories of species, habitats, and the urgent need to protect them.

Music is another essential dimension of my life. As a flutist trained in musicology, I specialize in Levantine and Arabic microtonal traditions and have developed techniques that adapt these rich musical systems to the classical flute.

My Lebanese-Spanish background and multilingual life inform the way I document, interpret, and connect across cultures. Whether in the field, behind the camera, or on stage, my work follows a simple guiding principle:
“Study the world with a naturalist’s eye, shape it with a musician’s imagination, and reveal it through the language of light.”

Thank you for visiting floraFauna.life. If you share an interest in nature, photography, conservation, music, or wish to collaborate, I invite you to reach out through the contact form. I look forward to connecting with you!
