• Life-form & habit: Stems up to 50 cm tall. Plant becoming glabrescent with age.
• Leaves: Similar to the typical subspecies, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, serrate.
• Inflorescence & flowers: Terminal thyrses; calyx without glands, a key diagnostic feature separating this variety from var. nevshehirensis. Corolla tubular, reddish-brown.
• Fruits: Capsule bilocular, many-seeded.
• Phenology: Flowers May–July.
• Habitat & elevation: Rocky places, from middle to high mountain zones.
• Lebanese distribution: Sir-ed-Dennié (Mt!), Jabal Kneissé (Mt!), Cedars (Mt!), Bsharré (Pb!).
• Syrian distribution: Anti-Lebanon (Birket-el-Foukhté, Jabal Halimé, Tala‘at Moussa, Jabal Abou-l-Haar above Bloudane, north of Yabroud, Jabal Ma‘loula, Jabal Lemnar), Damascus region (Jabal Qasyoun), Jabal Druze (Tell Qpuleib, Soueida, Jabal Druze), Jabal Mattai, and southeastern slopes of Mount Hermon.
• Native range: Southeastern Turkey, Lebanon, Syria.
