• Life-form & habit: Green plant, glabrous or slightly puberulent, with tall stems 30–80 cm, simple or branched.
• Leaves: Petiolate, cordate-ovate, 1–5 cm long, crenate-dentate; upper and floral leaves smaller, acute, strongly dentate.
• Inflorescence & flowers: Pseudoverticils generally few-flowered, sessile, forming terminal inflorescences, more spaced toward the base. Bracts numerous, subulate-hispid, shorter than calyx tube.
• Calyx: Tubular, narrow, 10–12 mm long, oblique at throat; teeth three times shorter than tube, unequal.
• Corolla: Blue-violet, tube long-exserted, somewhat arched, pubescent outside, up to 30 mm long.
• Fruit: Nutlets tuberculate and muricate.
• Phenology: Flowers June–September.
• Habitat & elevation: Mountain habitats.
• Lebanese distribution: Mi. ‘Aïn Zehalta, Ma‘asser ech-Chouf; Mm. Cedars of Barouk, Jabal Kneissé, near ‘Aïn Saoua‘ir, Sannine, Yammouné–Dimane, Dimane gorge, Bcharré, Ehden, Cedars, above Bcharré, Neba‘ Succar, Qornet es-Saouda; Hermon (Hermon summit, Rachaya); S. Herm. above ‘Arné; Mi. Slenfé; A.L. Jabal Gharbi above Bloudane; N Lattaquié: ‘Aïn Haramiyé, Cassius.
• Native range: Cyprus, East Aegean Islands, Lebanon–Syria, Palestine, Turkey (POWO).
