• Life-form & habit: Tree reaching 15 m, with erect cylindrical branches and somewhat four-angled branchlets.
• Leaves: Opposite, ovate to lanceolate and pointed on the main shoots, joined at the base but spreading slightly above it. Leaves on secondary branchlets convex, nearly appressed and without glands.
• Reproductive structures: Pollen cones solitary and rather stout, with rounded scales.
• Seed cones: Reddish-brown, with a bluish waxy bloom; scales remain partly distinguishable at maturity. Each cone contains only 1–2 seeds.
• Phenology: Pollen cones appear in spring.
• Habitat & elevation: Mountain forest, usually associated with fir, including Abies cilicica.
• Lebanese distribution: Qamoua forest, the area between Qamoua and Hermel, and Fnaidek.
• Native range: Albania, Cyprus, East Aegean Is., Greece, Iran, Krym, Lebanon-Syria, North Caucasus, NW. Balkan Pen., Transcaucasus, Turkmenistan, Türkiye.
