• Life-form & habit: Glabrous perennial, with fistulous stems rooting at the nodes, 10–50 cm tall.
• Leaves: Pinnate with 3–6 pairs of opposite leaflets, ovate-lanceolate, serrate, oblique at the base.
• Inflorescence & flowers: Umbels opposite the leaves, sessile or very shortly pedunculate, 3–12 rays, without involucre. Umbellules with involucral bracteoles, lanceolate with white margins. Flowers white.
• Fruits: Ovoid, with prominent ribs.
• Phenology: May–September.
• Habitat & elevation: Canals, streams, ponds, marshy places.
• Lebanese distribution: Saïda, Beirut, Antélias, Nahr el-Kelb, Tripoli, Harajel, Hasroun, Beqaa (Zaïr waters, Talabaya), Mount Hermon.
• Syrian distribution: Mayssaloun, Hamé, Ouadi ‘Arad, Hama.
• Native range: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Azores, Baleares, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Chad, Corsica, Cyprus, East Aegean Islands, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon–Syria, Libya, Madeira, Morocco, Netherlands, Pakistan, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Sardinia, Saudi Arabia, Sicily, Somalia, Spain, Switzerland, Tadzhikistan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Turkey-in-Europe, Uzbekistan, Yemen (POWO).
• Doubtfully present in: Greece, NW Balkan Peninsula, Romania (POWO).
• Introduced into: Argentina (Northeast, South), California, Chile (Central, North), New Jersey, New Zealand (North and South Islands), Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Western Australia (POWO).
