• Life-form & habit: Glabrous, glaucescent perennial, 60–100 cm tall. Stems cylindrical, slender, dichotomously branched from the base into erect branches bearing only sheathing remnants of leaves.
• Leaves: Radical leaves short, once or twice pinnatisect, with 2–3 pairs of somewhat fleshy segments, entire or divided into 3–5 linear lobules, subacute at apex.
• Inflorescence & flowers: Umbels with 2–3 (rarely 5) unequal, erect rays, lacking a general involucre. Involucel bracteoles small, oblong, white-margined. Umbellules with 3–9 whitish flowers.
• Fruits: Oblong to elliptic, with prominent filiform ribs and narrow margins. Stylopodium depressed.
• Varieties:
– var. alpinum Boiss.: strongly reduced form, at most 15 cm tall, with all organs dwarfed.
• Phenology: Flowers May–August (sometimes September) in high mountains.
• Habitat & elevation: Alpine and subalpine regions.
• Lebanese distribution: Mount Barouk, Cèdres de Barouk, Denniyé, Hasroun, Dimane, Ehden; also reported from Jabal Sannine, Jabal Kneissé, ‘Ayyoun Ourghouch, Yammouné to Dimane, and Qornet es-Saouda.
• Syrian distribution: Anti-Lebanon (Jabal Halimé) and Mount Hermon.
• Native range: Taurus Mountains, Lebanon, Anti-Lebanon, Mount Hermon
