Chamaecytisus drepanolobus (Boiss.) Rothm.

(Nouvelle Flore du Liban et de la Syrie, vol. 2, Pl. XCI nº 5; 1983, as Cytisus drepanolobus Boiss.)


  • Life-form & habit: Small, irregularly branched shrub, 30–80 cm tall; stems few, covered with appressed pubescence.

  • Leaves: Folioles obovate-oblong, deep green, weakly pubescent or nearly glabrous even on the lower surface.

  • Inflorescence & flowers: Flowers clustered at the stem apices, each up to 1 cm long.

  • Calyx: Short-tubular, hirsute, bilabiate nearly to the middle; upper lip deeply bilobed, lower lip with linear-setaceous teeth.

  • Fruit: Lanceolate-linear pods, straight or sickle-shaped, many-seeded, shortly silky-pubescent, 3 cm long × 6 mm wide.

  • Phenology: Flowers from May to June.

  • Habitat & elevation: Woodland habitats, mid to high altitudes.

  • Lebanese distribution: L. Mm. Near Col de Zahlé (station now destroyed).

  • Syrian distribution: S. Mm. East slope of Slenfé; NLatt. 4 hours south of Kessab.

  • Native range: Southern Turkey, Amanus, Syria, Lebanon
