  • Life-form & habit: Glandular-pubescent annual, 10–25 cm tall; stems simple or branched from the base, spreading or ascending.

  • Leaves: Lower leaves oval-spatulate with attenuate petiole; upper leaves oblong, sessile.

  • Inflorescence & flowers: Usually very condensed at anthesis, sometimes divided into 2–4 short, repeatedly branched axes, each ending in fasciculate flowers on short pedicels.

  • Bracts: Entirely herbaceous, acute.

  • Sepals: Lanceolate, glandular-pubescent, without scarious margins, 3–4 mm long, acute.

  • Petals: White, equal in length to the sepals, bifid to one-third, with a bearded claw.

  • Filaments: Glabrous.

  • Fruit: Cylindrical capsule, slightly curved, twice the length of the calyx, with 10 straight teeth at the apex.

  • Phenology: Flowers from February to May.

  • Habitat & elevation: Common in fallow land and disturbed habitats.
