Life-form & habit: Biennial, glabrous or with sparse hair, with a fusiform root.
Leaves: Basal leaves obovate, 40–80 × 10–20 mm, attenuate at base, slightly petiolate; cauline leaves sessile, linear-lanceolate, acute.
Inflorescence & flowers: Spiciform racemes of subsessile or pedicellate flowers.
Calyx: Lobes denticulate and glandular.
Corolla: Funnel-shaped, divided to one-third, 15–20 mm long, style approximately equal to the tube.
Fruit: Capsule dehiscent by lateral pores.
Phenology: Flowers from April to May.
Habitat & elevation: Wooded or bushy places, rocky areas.
Lebanese & Syrian status: No specimens of var. lambertiana were identified among the studied Lebanese or Syrian collections; all belonged to var. spiciformis.
Native range: Bulgaria, Iran, Krym, Lebanon-Syria, North Caucasus, Palestine, Transcaucasus, Türkey, Türkey-in-Europe. (KEW, GBIF)
