  • Life-form & habit: Annual, pubescent, papillose or viscid plant, 15–30(–50) cm tall; stems erect or prostrate.

  • Leaves: Oblong-lanceolate, subcrenate-dentate, acute; lower leaves attenuate into a petiole, upper ones semi-amplexicaul and decurrent.

  • Inflorescence & flowers: Capitula 10–20 mm wide, usually concolorous. Ligules pale yellow (soufre), slightly exceeding the length of the involucral bracts, but often slightly shorter.

  • Fruit: Inner achenes annular and reduced; intermediate ones variously cymbiform; outer ones semicircular, rarely with a well-developed beak, often dorsally crested.

  • Phenology: Flowers from January to May.

  • Habitat & elevation: Cultivated fields and gardens.

  • Lebanese distribution: Ct. Qazmiyé, Saïda, E of Saïda, Beirut, Ghadir, Bir Hassan, Tripoli; Mi. ‘Aïtate, Ghazir, Ghosta, Souq el-Gharb, Chemlan, Bikfaya, Broummana; Sud. Marjayyoun, Şarada; Met. Hasbani.

  • Syrian distribution: Mi. Bhamra, El-Kaff; Dam. Souq Ouadi Barada, Nachabiyé, Bab Charki, Marj el-Akhdar, Damascus; Sy. Aleppo, Babeska, Hama, Homs; J.D. Tell Qpuleib, Soueida-Kafer, Soueida, Ghabha; St. Baghouse.
