Life-form & habit: Perennial with thick papillae-bearing hairs, 10–30 cm tall.
Leaves: All basal, in a rosette; oblong-spatulate, obtuse, gradually attenuate at the base into an indistinct petiole, 1–3-veined, entire or crenate, up to 12 cm long.
Inflorescence & flowers: Involucre with dark green to blackish bracts, up to 1 cm long. Ligules linear, rose-tinged, 2 to more than 2 times the length of the bracts.
Fruit: Obovate-compressed achenes; pappus absent.
Phenology: Flowers throughout the year.
Habitat & elevation: Rocky terrain.
Lebanese distribution: Ct. Saïda, Beirut, Tripoli, Nahr el-Kelb; Mi. Road to Qartaba, Sourate, Col de Jezzine, above Saïda, Deir el-Qala‘a, ‘Abey; Mm. Jabal Akroun, Forest of Qamou‘a; Herm. Rachaya; Sud. Nabatiyé.
Syrian distribution: Hosn Sleiman, Kessab, Bhamra, Marmarita, Ouadi el-Qarn, Douma, Mezzé, Afrine, Hammé.
Native range: Albania, Algeria, Baleares, Bulgaria, Corse, Cyprus, East Aegean Is., France, Greece, Italy, Kriti, Krym, Lebanon-Syria, Libya, Morocco, NW. Balkan Pen., Palestine, Portugal, Sardegna, Sicilia, Spain, Tunisia, Türkey, Türkey-in-Europe (KEW)
