Life-form & habit: Stemless perennial, densely covered with thick papillae-bearing hairs; 10–25 cm tall.
Leaves: All basal, forming a rosette; obovate to spatulate, very obtuse, with a single vein, entire or slightly crenate, abruptly attenuate into a broad petiole.
Inflorescence & flowers: Scapes exceeding the leaves. Involucre blackish, with obtuse bracts. Ligules more than twice as long as the involucre, white with a slight pink tinge, narrow.
Fruit: Obovate, compressed achenes; pappus absent.
Phenology: Flowers throughout the year.
Habitat & elevation: Rocky soils.
Lebanese distribution: Ct. Nahr el-Kelb, Akkar plain, Tripoli; Mi. below Beit Méri; Mm. Jabal Sannine, Col de Jezzine, Jabal Qamou‘a, Hasroun, stream of Ehden, Dimane, between Ehden and Bazoun; Met. Zahlé.
Syrian distribution: Baalbek, El Qa‘a; A.L. Ma‘ara to Yabroud; Herm. lower Hermon; Dam. Damascus, Mezzé, Marj el-Akh Dar, Outaya, Ouadi Barada, Doumar; St. Qaryatein; Sy. Afrine, Aleppo; J.D. above Salé, fountain of the Bedouins above Soueida, Kafer; WHoms. NW of Homs.
Regional range: Madeira, Europe, Turkey, Cyprus, Lebanon, Syria, Iran
