Life-form & habit: Stemless, hispid perennial with narrow underground rhizomes.
Leaves: 15–20 cm long, with 15–20 pairs of elliptical, obtuse leaflets of variable width. Stipules oblong.
Inflorescence & flowers: Dense racemes of 3–5 subsessile flowers.
Calyx: Hirsute, 7–10 mm long, with lanceolate teeth slightly longer than half the tube.
Corolla: Standard oblong and retuse, clearly exceeding the wings and keel.
Fruit: Hispid, semi-oblong, compressed and triquetrous pod tapering into a recurved point.
Phenology: Flowers from May to July.
Habitat & elevation: Mountain regions, especially in forested areas; stunted and reduced in heavily grazed terrain.
Lebanese distribution: Mm. Jabal Barouk, Jabal Kneissé, Dimane, Jourd Hasroun, Ehden, Cedars of Bsharré; Me. Above the Cedars; Ve. Yammouné; Herm. Hermon.
Native range: Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran. (KEW, GBIF)
