Life-form & habit: Slender perennial with cylindrical, thin roots. Stem slender, relatively short, leafy up to two-thirds or at least half the length below the panicle.
Leaves: Linear-subulate, triquetrous, rough along the margins.
Inflorescence & flowers: Panicle sometimes simple, more often branched. Bracts short, deltoid, cuspidate. Floral pedicels solitary or paired, erect, jointed below the middle.
Perianth: 15–20 mm long; tepals yellow-orange, lanceolate with a green midline. Outer filaments one-third shorter than the inner.
Fruit: Globular capsule with strongly wrinkled valves; seeds smooth.
Phenology: Flowers in spring.
Habitat & elevation: Woodlands or scrublands.
Lebanese distribution: Mi. Boq'ayta, Mayrouba, Feitroun; Mm. Hasroun, Ehden, Dahr-el-Baïdar, Falougha, Jezzine, Beskinta, Jabal Barouk, Sannine; Ve. Ouadi-el-‘Arayech, Zahlé.
Syrian distribution: Yaat, Baalbeck Temple; NLatt. ‘Aïn-el-Haramiyé, Kizil Dagh, Bassit, Kessab; A.L. Ouadi-el-Qarn; Sud. Qneitra.
Native range: Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Iran (KEW, GBIF)
