Life-form & habit: Weakly pubescent to nearly glabrous annual, with branched stems 20–60 cm tall.
Leaves: Ovate-oblong in outline, bipinnatisect into linear lobes, entire or 2–3-dentate, mucronate, spreading.
Inflorescence & flowers: Peduncles not thickened. Capitula 7–10 mm in diameter, whitish-pubescent. Outer bracts ovate, relatively broad; inner bracts oblong-ovate, obtuse, with scarious margins. Receptacle elongate-conical, naked at base, furnished with linear-subulate paleae above, which do not exceed the disc. Ray florets sterile, ligules oblong-elliptic to oblong-lanceolate, 6–8 mm long. Disc florets with cylindrical tube dilated at base.
Fruit: Achenes deciduous, more or less cylindrical, turbinate, tuberculate, often slightly crenate on the sides, naked at the apex.
Phenology: Flowers from April to June.
Habitat & elevation: Common in fields and wastelands.
Lebanese distribution: Ct. Saïda, Beirut, Nahr Beyrouth, Tripoli; Mi. Khan Jedid, ‘Abey; Mm. Dimane, Bcharré, Ehden, Kneissé, Afqa, Col de Zahlé, Roueissat; ‘Akkar: Menges; Metn: Beqa‘a, Chtaura, Hermel; Sud: Jisr el-Khardali.
