Life-form & habit: Glabrous, glaucescent plant with woody or suffrutescent rhizome, producing numerous prostrate, filiform, simple or branched leafy stems.
Leaves: Petiolate, obovate to elliptic and somewhat acute; in var. rotundifolia, leaves are rounded or orbiculate-ovate. Stipules triangular, peltate, membranous and lacerated.
Inflorescence & flowers: Axillary flowers, shortly pedicellate, usually solitary, occasionally in groups of 2–3. Calyx with slightly acute lobes, narrowly margined in white. Petals lanceolate, shorter than sepals.
Fruit: Depressed capsule, glabrous, with angular, punctate seeds.
Phenology: Flowers from March to August.
Habitat & elevation: Dry places and rocky habitats.
Lebanese distribution: Found in Beirut, Saïda, Choueifat, Nahr-el-Kelb, ‘Abey, Chemlan, Bikfaya, Ghazir, Ehden, and Qannoubine.
Native range : Cape Verde Islands, Spain, North Africa, southern Italy, the eastern Mediterranean, and Western Asia
