  • Life-form & habit: Tufted perennial with fibrous roots. Stems erect, leafy, 10–60 cm tall.

  • Leaves: Broad-bladed, pubescent, shorter than the stem.

  • Inflorescence & flowers: Terminal spike solitary, linear, brown; 2–4 lateral spikelets erect or nodding.

  • Bracts: Leafy, with the lowest typically exceeding the inflorescence.

  • Glumes: Linear-lanceolate, brownish with a green keel; others ovate, pale, and acuminate.

  • Utricles: Green, glabrous, smooth or slightly scabrid at the apex, elliptic-ovate, with obsolete nerves, lacking a beak.

  • Phenology: Flowers from April to August.

  • Habitat & elevation: Moist sandstone substrates.

  • Lebanese distribution: Mm. Mayrouba (Sam), Khan Sannine, and sandstone between Sannine and Kneissé.
