Life-form & habit: Tuberous perennial with leaves and inflorescence arising from the tuber; habit similar to A. elongatum but differs in foliar and floral characters.
Leaves: Petioles 2–3 times longer than the blade; uppermost petiole very broadly and extensively sheathing. Blade broad in the middle, with lobes not divaricate and only slightly divergent, reaching up to 15 × 8 cm.
Inflorescence & flowers: Peduncle equal to or longer than the petioles. Spathe narrow, elongated, long-acuminate, up to 20 cm long and barely 2 cm wide. Tube little dilated, nearly cylindrical, ca. 2 cm. Outer spathe greenish or violet; inner side dirty white to light violet. Spadix appendage not much thickened, almost reaching the spathe apex, long-stipitate.
Sterile flowers: Very pale, whitish-yellow, numerous, very fine, reflexed and dense above the ring; fewer between the two rings.
Fertile zone: Pale-colored ring (white or grey), about 8 mm wide, followed by a slightly thicker, darker ring of purple-violet carpels surrounding the stigma.
Phenology: Flowers from March to May.
Habitat & elevation: Rocky habitats in mountainous regions.
Lebanese distribution: Mi. Mayfouk; Mm. Jisr-el-Hajar.
Syrian distribution: A.L. Above Zebdani (type locality), Ouadi el-Qarn, Jabal Abou ‘Ata; J.D. Tell Jéni.
Native range: Southern Russia, Crimea, Caucasus, Turkey
